Research Interests and History
Vivek Yadav obtained his PhD from The Ohio State University in Mechanical Engineering. He then joined The Pennsylvania State University as a post-doctoral scholar in the departments of Kinesiology and Neurology. Vivek's research focuses on applying engineering concepts (robotics and controls) to identifying the principles governing human motor control and their corresponding neural correlates. More specifically, he develops computational models that mimic motor control organization in health individuals, and tests how these models are affected due to various neurological pathologies; like stroke or Parkinson’s. He aims to apply these insights to develop low-cost devices for providing movement therapy and rehabilitation. He expects these devices will provide optimum therapy to maximize motor recovery, and overall improve the quality of life for individuals with various pathologies. He is on the NSF’s panel for Smart and Connected Health (SCH) program. In addition, Vivek holds a secondary appointment in the Department of Neurology at Stony Brook University.
