Research Interests and History
Professor Kincaid's research activities have been in the area of theoretical statistical mechanics, primarily studies of the thermophysical properties of fluids and solids. At The Rockefeller University his work focussed on the equilibrium properties of fluid mixtures and the similarity of the phase behavior of these mixtures with those of solid metamagnetic materials. Subsequently, his research expanded into the areas of critical phenomena (at Los Alamos National Laboratories) and the phase equilibrium and transport properties of polydisperse fluids and fluid mixtures with application to petroleum engineering (at the National Bureau of Standards). Since he arrived at Stony Brook in 1986, his research has focused on the calculation of refrigerant mixture properties and the use of molecular dynamics to develop descriptions of nano-scale heat and mass transport.
