Research Interests and History
Lili Zheng works on a solidification-related material's processing with
a special emphasis on morphological control of the eutectic growth utilizing
combined electric and magnetic fields. Using an integrated experimental,
theoretical and computational approach, she is developing a detailed
understanding of the effects of the buoyancy-driven convection as well
as electromagnetic forces on solidification processes, interface dynamics
and materials microstructure formation. This work has broad applications
in technologies that rely on advance materials. In addition, Zheng has
conducted extensive research on turbulent reacting flows with applications
to scramjet engines and automobile engines. Scientific disciplines that
are of direct interest are chemical kinetics, fluid mechanics, heat
and mass transfer, and high-temperature gas-dynamics. Her research topics
include aerodynamics of laminar and turbulent flames, chemical structure
of flames, combustion and dynamics of droplets and sprays, supersonic
combustion, and combustion synthesis of materials.
