Research Interests and History

    Dr. Purwar received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Stony Brook University. His research interests include Computer Aided Design and Manufacturing (CAD/CAM), Computational Kinematics, Robotics and Design Automation, Object Oriented Systems Design and Programming, Geometric Modeling and Computer Graphics. Anurag Purwar is the department's representative to the state-funded Strategic Partnership for Industrial Resurgence (SPIR) program. As the SPIR representative, he identifies and coordinates projects between the department with local small businesses with the goal to create new jobs. SPIR projects include joint proposals for federal funding, manufacturing and quality assurance improvements, research and development, and testing and evaluation.
    Dr. Purwar's work has been published in international journals and conferences and he is the recipient of the Presidential Award for Excellence in Teaching by Stony Brook University. He also serves as a reviewer for the ASME Journal of Mechanical Design and the International Journal of Robotics and Automation. He is a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).
