Research Interests and History
Dr. Michelle Nearon came to the Department of Mechanical Engineering
to pursue her Ph.D. after completing her undergraduate degree in Aerospace
Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and after having
spent eight years in the private sector as an aerospace engineer. Dr.
Nearon teaches the following courses: Introduction to Fluid Mechanics,
Engineeing Design Methodology and Optimization. She also leads a recruitment
and diversification effort for the College of Engineering and Applied
Sciences which actively seeks highly qualified students from competitive
New York City high schools. Dr. Nearon worked with the Ward Melville
Historical Society in composing an educational pamphlet on the workings
of the 17th Century grist mill which is the centerpiece of Stony Brook
Village.
