Research Interests and History
Lei Zuo’s research interests include passive and active vibration control, energy harvesting, dynamic systems and control, mechatronics system design, and biomedical instrumentation. Lei Zuo completed his Ph.D. from MIT in November 2004. Prior to joining Stony Brook in the fall of 2008 he had worked four years in industry as a senior research scientist and associate research investigator at Abbott Laboratories in Chicago, designing biomedical instruments and robotic systems for pharmaceutical R&D. He also worked in Caltech-MIT LIGO Scientific Collaboration on precision vibration control and General Electric Global Research Center on machine dynamics. One of his current focuses is developing new methodology to control vibration and to attain more useful energy. Another main focus is developing new bioinstruments to significantly speed up pharmaceutical R&D and to enhance our understanding of biological systems. Dr. Zuo has published over 20 refereed papers and holds two US patents. He also serves as a reviewer for 6 Journals and a number of conferences. He received the 2007 Scientific Innovation Award by Abbott and Hats Off Award by GE in 2002. He is a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).
