Research Interests

The frequency and intensity of storms have increased in recent years. In addition, sea level rise and land subsidence have made coastal areas more vulnerable to coastal flooding. In the United States, more than half of the country’s population lives in coastal counties. The direct and indirect physical effects of future sea level changes and intensified storms must be taken into account during the planning, engineering, and designing of coastal projects. Better preparedness against flooding requires deeper understanding of coastal phenomena as well as better design procedures for coastal infrastructures.

Dr. Farhadzadeh’s research interests focus on nearshore hydrodynamics, coastal processes and beach morphology, wave-structure interaction, resilient coastal protection systems, storm surge and wave modeling and coastal flooding and inundation. As a registered Professional Engineer (PE) with several years of industry experience both in the US and abroad, Dr. Farhadzadeh would like to apply his research to coastal engineering practices.

Dr. Farhadzadeh has authored several journal papers and conference proceedings. He completed his Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and Master’s degree in Hydraulic Structures in his home country, Iran.
