Required Qualifications: PhD in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering field at the time of employment.

Preferred Qualifications: Candidates in one of the following areas: Solid mechanics, with an emphasis on composite materials and an experimental background (highly qualified candidates in other areas of solid mechanics will also be considered). Fluids, with an emphasis on renewable energy, energy efficiency, data-driven computing, and computational algorithms for exascale (highly qualified candidates in a closely related thermo-fluid area will also be considered). 

Responsibilities & Requirements: The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Stony Brook University has multiple tenure-track faculty positions open in Solid Mechanics and Fluids. While the position is anticipated at the Assistant Professor level, exceptional candidates may be considered for the Associate or Full Professor level. The successful candidate must have a strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate teaching, and potential for establishing an externally funded research program. Candidates for the rank of Associate or Full Professor should have distinguished records of research and educational activities including a strong and diverse funding history.

Special Notes: This is a tenure track position. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. The SPIR (Strategic Partnership for Industrial Resurgence) program allows NY State-based companies to hire our students on a temporary basis. Through SPIR, students work on many diverse and interesting projects and the vast majority of them are offered a permanent job at the company upon graduation. Students are compensated for their time and work while gaining valuable realworld experience.
