Program Director – Civil Engineering Program
Stony Brook University seeks a visionary leader with proven academic and research track record to establish and lead the new Civil Engineering Program in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Stony Brook University. The Program Director will be responsible for the recruitment of new faculty, development of labs, undergraduate and graduate programs, establishment of active research programs, and the preparation for ABET accreditation in four areas of concentration: Transportation Engineering; Environmental Engineering; Infrastructure Geotechnical Engineering; and Infrastructure Structural Engineering.
The successful candidate must have a Doctorate in Civil Engineering, with a P.E. preferred, and at least 10 years of teaching and research experience in Civil Engineering or related discipline. He/she must also have a proven record of securing substantial funding from major granting agencies and research foundations and will have compiled an outstanding record of professional achievement. The successful candidate must possess excellent leadership and management skills and have the decision-making and collaborative skills required to establish and lead a world-class program. Appointment at the full professor rank is preferred although consideration may also be given to a senior level associate professor with considerable experience.
The Mechanical Engineering Department is part of the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences (CEAS), which consists of seven departments and the Center for Excellence in Wireless and Information Technology (CEWIT) and Advanced Energy Research and Technology Center.
Home to many highly ranked graduate research programs, Stony Brook University is located 60 miles from New York City on Long Island’s scenic North Shore.
